Coaching football Offense-12 personnel at the college level

12 Personnel in the College Game

12 personnel and the runs out of it has brought a phsyicality back to the college game. Ir has been utilized by various teams at the college level .Let's start with some teams that use 12 personnel often in their offense.

Advantages:

1. Gives you some angles in the run game

2.More effective play action game

3. Dictate coverage more defensively(teams will play more zone against 12 and it opens up your quick passing game and play action game. Teams will rotate to cover 3 with motion and it opens up more boot components back to the weak side.

4. Forces teams to get out of their base nickel defense and play other schemes. Maybe 3-4 or maybe a true 4-3. This changes your run fits.

Iowa State

12 Run split zone with a great scheme vs Baylor's tight front

Good angles and execution in this well designed play.

G wrap

Here you see G wrap out of 12 vs the Tite front.

RT has a great angle on the 4i and the guard does a nice job getting up to the LB

RPO Glance Route

Running 3x1 into the boundary, most times you will get some type of cover 3, Clemson brings a fire zone cover 3.

Nice design and easy completion on the glance route back to the boundary.

Boot package

With all the teams that like to spin with motion in today's defensive age, boot out of 12 is a great play back to the weak side of the formation or to the boundary.

Heres the same play vs Baylor when it goes to a 4-2 look

Texas offense vs Baylor defense.

Texas comes out in 12 and runs boot to the boundary out of 12 formation, ace with 2 h backs.

Oregon vs Washington.

Wide Zone

Washington goes trips 3x1 to the left side with the tight end with a tight end backside. They get nice leverage based on alignment. Nice job blocking it as they get nice leverage on the defensive end. 12 personel puts them in a bind as they stay cover 2 shell vs Herbert and Oregon

Minn vs Penn State.

Minn goes 12 with 3x1 and they get man to man coverage on the 1 wr side with no safety over the top help. Nice throw and catch for the 40 yard td. Makes you make a decision as a defense.
